The Cost of Discipleship
I had decided. I was determined. Nothing would stop me. I would complete this bulletin message two weeks before the due date. Armed with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, I sat down in front of the computer, trying to start.
A minute later, my phone buzzed. I told myself it wouldn’t hurt if I took a few seconds off. So, I checked Whatsapp. As well as Facebook statuses and twitter updates. Oh, and I needed to comment on Instagram and reply SMSes too. Then my dog needed feeding. I made a trip down to the kitchen. One thing led to another and those few seconds on Whatsapp became hours.
Is that familiar to you? We want to do that "one thing" but more often than not, we find ourselves distracted by many things. Everything seems to be screaming for our time and attention. As a result, the "one thing" that needed to be done was never started, let alone completed. This happens to us when we do not focus and prioritize. The Bible gives us a lot of examples of the “one thing” in lives.
One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4
but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him. “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. Mark 10:21
What is that "one thing" in your life? Each new day, what is the one thing that you focus and prioritize? Do you make it your priority to spend time with God in your devotion, to read His Word, to pray and to listen to Him? Is that the one thing that you will make time for above all the other things that need your attention?
Family of PCC, let us make our time alone with God the one thing that you and I focus and prioritize as we grow together in our walk with Him!
